After two years without a Major, Natus Vincere delivered and wins the grand final.
It's been 24 long months since the last Counter-Strike: Global Offensive last major. We've patiently waited 24 months, and finally we've got what we deserved. The PGL Major Stockholm, held at the Avicci Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, was an explosive LAN event which ended with a great fight between the two grand finalists, which all the fans enjoyed.
The two teams that made it to the grand finals were Natus Vincere, also known as Na'Vi and G2 Esports. Both teams played two maps – Ancient and Nuke. While G2 played incredible, it wasn't enough to bring the trophy home. Even with the nexa and AmaNEk clutches to turn the favour towards G2 in the first map, that could do nothing as Na'Vi pushed a bit harder to bring the first map in their favour. Names like electronic, s1mple and b1t did bring the energy that Na'Vi needed to dominate the game.
In the second map Nuke, G2 worked as hard as they could to keep themselves in the grand finals. But Na'Vi is the master of the comebacks, and they went from 15-10 in round 25 to a tie at the end of round 30, pushing the map to the overtime.
G2 let some opportunities shadow into the map, and Na'Vi was stronger when they needed the most, as they managed to win 7 out of the 11 extended rounds and win the Grand Final.
Natus Vincere won the match 2-0, and the Major Stockholm 2021 championship.
And so, this is how the team won the prize money of $1,000,000 and the championship Trophy. G2, meanwhile, walked away with $300,000.
This is the third win by Na'Vi over G2 in three consecutive major LAN events – IEM Katowice 2020, IEM Cologne 2021, and now PGL Major Stockholm 2021. Na'Vi also became the only team in the tournament that did not drop a single map to their opponent.
S1mple was the MVP in the grand finals, which made 40 kills in their double overtime in the second map, Nuke. This is s1mple's first Major trophy ever.
